UNESCO's work

Our mission since 1945 is to build peace through international cooperation as it is the only way to build bridges between nations. As a laboratory of ideas, UNESCO seeks to offer a broad range of expertise in the fields of Education, the Sciences and Culture.

Discovering UNESCO

The UNESCO House hosts a wide variety of free events all year: concerts, shows, ceremonies, screenings, exhibitions and conferences open to the public and free.

Finding resources

  • Most publications are available in several languages and free of charge in our Digital Library and Archives reading room, UNESDOC.
  • The Organization's paper, audio and video archives are accessible upon request.
  • To obtain printed publications as well as stamps, coins and other UNESCO-related gifts, you can visit the bookshop at UNESCO’s Headquarters in Paris or purchase online at UNESCO Publishing.
  • You can Subscribe to the digital edition of UNESCO Courier (for free) and to the print edition. 

Many photos, videos and audio recordings are made available by UNESCO’s Multimedia services.

UNESCO's Institute for Statistics (UIS) provides worldwide statistics on education, science and technology, culture and communication.

UNESCO Library is open Monday to Friday from 12:00 p.m. to 17:00 p.m. by appointment only.

Obtaining UNESCO's support

UNESCO's fellowship programme grants fellowhips for students in the Organization's fields of action.

Although UNESCO is not a funding agency, some projects can obtain financial support under UNESCO's Participation Programme, designed to provide direct assistance to initiatives undertaken by Member States in the Organization's fields of competence. All applications should be submitted through the National Commission of the country where the organization requesting support is based.

The name, acronym and logo of UNESCO are the intellectual property of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. No individual or organization can use them without prior written authorization from UNESCO. Please contact logo@unesco.org for more information.

UNESCO can morally endorse under patronage an exceptional activity for which the Organization is neither financially nor legally responsible.
