In science fiction we can accept the fantastic and extraordinary because we know they are not true. But in recent years there has been so much talk in the press, on TV. and elsewhere of robots that "think", computers that have "nervous breakdowns" or "flying saucers" manned by creatures from outer space that such myths are being taken for scientific fact Science popularization today therefore has an important role to play toward a better under standing of science as distinct from the myths.
