Peruvian chronicles in clay
The Indian fishermen of northern Peru still use reeds to make simple skiffs which they call "little reed horses." They inherited this tradition from their distant ancestors, the Mochicas, as is shown by this Mochican pottery decoration: a stylized drawing of a reed vessel with bow and stern fashioned into dragon heads. The Mochicas were master ceramists who revealed every detail of their lives in fine, realistically moulded pottery.
